Local Artist Visits Covington Art Students
By Dawn Piper
Local artist Jennifer Chenoweth recently visited with Covington art students on campus. Chenoweth was commissioned by the City of Austin to create a temporary public artwork through the Art in Public Places Tempo Program. (https://austintexas.gov/tempo)
She is installing 4 Location Markers in public parks around Austin. The markers will move to parks in different areas of the city over the next few months. They were most recently in Dick Nichols Park, Longview Park, and Silk Oak Park near our campus. The artwork is part of the XYZ Atlas: The Hedonic Map of Austin project. There is a survey that asks 20 questions about where people have had significant emotional experiences in Austin. The responses are plotted on a topographical map and become part of the project. The idea is that all of our feelings and experiences create wholeness and connection to place.
